I have taken my two girls, and my niece to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida twice now. Each time we travel on a budget. I love to spend time browsing all of the merchandise on the property, but I don’t dare buy any of it there. That is because I know a big secret. There are Disney outlet stores that sell the same items at a fraction of the cost.
After visiting Walt Disney World the first time, my mother told me about the Disney outlet store in the St. Augustine shopping mall. This mall is only about 25 minutes from my mom’s house, so we took a trip down there. I was amazed. I got Mickey sweatshirts for $5, as well as many trinkets and toys for even less than that. It was totally worth the wait.
The one thing you must watch out for when purchasing items at the Disney outlet store is that some of the items have dates listed on them. For example, a t-shirt may be imprinted with the words “Walt Disney World” and then “2011” printed underneath of that. If you don’t mind the date being different than when you actually visited Disney World, then by all means buy the item. In addition to t-shirts, I found this to be common on things like coffee mugs and plaques.
There are stores in Orlando that sell merchandise with Disney characters on them. The items are cheap, but I don’t like to buy my souvenirs there. I want Disney to profit from my purchases, but I don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for something I know didn’t cost them very much to make. The outlet stores are the perfect solution.
